Maize Training for Farmers in Edo State Under the Supervision of Senator Clifford Ordia, Senator for Edo Central.<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dc69030 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"dc69030\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a6ce8fd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a6ce8fd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5>On 31<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0March 2018, under the supervision of Senator Clifford Ordia, the Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Salad Greenhouse Worldwide Ltd. started a 100% organic maize training project for 200 farmers covering 10 hectares in the Esan Central Senatorial District at the newly established Salad Greenhouse Worldwide Training Farm at Duze Camp in the Ewu Irrua local government area of Edo State.<\/h5><h5>The farmers have learned so far how to prepare their soil and to prepare their seeds with Bio-Plant. Aliyu Ibrahim and Manir Isa are the technical team of Salad Greenhouse Worldwide Ltd. who are training the farmers.<\/h5><h5>The key to increasing the quality and yield of maize in Nigeria is for the farmers to learn how to restore the fertility of their soil with 100% organic farming after many years of chemical agriculture, which have seen the gradual destruction of Nature\u2019s Soil Food Web and the soil\u2019s Nutrient Cycle. This has resulted in widespread poor soil fertility, low yields, and prevalence of disease and pests. \u00a0Bio-Plant and Pro-Plant are 100% organic, liquid, microbial bio-fertilisers, which are made The Pokata site had sandy soil, while that of Posulte had clay loam soil.<\/h5><h5>No soil preparation with Bio-Plant and compost was carried out owing to a shortage of time. Nevertheless, the results were very good. The tests were carried out by 3 farmers in Chanchaga village during\u00a0the 2015\/2016 dry season period.<\/h5><h5><strong>Summary<\/strong><strong><br \/><\/strong>1. Bio-Plant and Pro-Plant were tested on\u00a0maize using different farmers to evaluate their impact compared to\u00a0inorganic NPK fertilizer, which the farmers were used to.<br \/>2. The results obtained revealed that plots treated with Pro-Plant\u00a0combined with Bio-Plant had significantly higher yields.<br \/>3. In all the treatments where Pro-Plant was used either alone or combined with NPK or Bio-Plant, an appreciable yield increase was\u00a0obtained.<br \/>4. The rice seeds were soaked in Bio-Plant and water for 18 hours before planting. Because of many years of chemical farming in the area, the soil was in poor condition before the test. It was prepared with a bio-chemical mixture of Urea and Bio-Plant. Bio-Plant was also mixed with NPK and this bio-chemical mixture was fed to the rice plants during the crop. Pro-Plant was sprayed regularly on the rice plants during the crop. Salad Greenhouse Worldwide Ltd.\u2019s Goal and Vision for Agriculture in Nigeria<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1bfcf0f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1bfcf0f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5>Salad Greenhouse Worldwide Ltd. continues tirelessly to carry out field tests in various states; to hold presentations for farmers and farmer representatives about the benefits of using Salad Green Bio-Plant and Salad Green Pro-Plant; and to meet with state government agriculture officials in order to make known to them the benefits of changing to 100% organic agriculture with Salad Green Bio-Plant and Salad Green Pro-Plant and to propose 100% agriculture projects. The response from state government officials to Salad Greenhouse Worldwide Ltd.\u2019s project proposals to make 100% organic agriculture widespread in their states has been most welcoming.\u00a0\u00a0<\/h5><h5>During the sensitisation trip in the first half of December 2017 in Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and Kogi states the response from the farmers was generally a mixture of relief and delight that there is now an effective alternative to chemical agriculture. Many farmers expressed despair about the poor condition of their soil, and about the deleterious effects of farming with chemicals. Some commented that this had caused youth in their communities to leave the countryside and to seek employment in the towns and cities.\u00a0<\/h5><h5>The soil in Nigeria is in very poor condition. Food security can only be ensured by restoring the microbial life and fertility of the soil. It is pointless to carry on piling on Urea and NPK (now up to 15 bags per hectare!), which acidify the soil and kill the microbial life. This weakens the immune system of the plants; attracts insect pests to the crops; and causes disease. To fight the pests and disease resulting from the lack of microbial life in the soil, farmers use a massive amount of carcinogenic chemical sprays, which kill the soil\u2019s microbial life and reinforce the unfortunate cycle. The soil is clearly seriously depleted, like in many states.<\/em><\/h5><h5>The future of agriculture in Nigeria is most definitely a shift to 100% organic farming and the decline of chemical agriculture, which can no longer ensure food security at the family, state, or national levels.
