For farmers who are unable to grow their crops with compost for some reason, so that their soil has organic matter in it for their crop, we recommend that they either:

• Use organic matter

• Grow a cover crop before they plant their cash crop

• Intercrop their cash crop with a cover crop

• Mulch their soil
